5 Fun Dog Tricks To Teach Our Atlanta Pups

We've all seen funny videos of people's dogs doing tricks, but did you know that dogs can easily learn any human behavior? A dog's brain is wired to be highly responsive to its owner. Dogs pick up on cues and mimic behaviors in order to gain attention. Here are some fun and easy tricks to teach your pup.

1. Give A Kiss

The easiest trick to teach your dog is to teach them to kiss you since they love to do it anyway. After learning this trick, they will also know when not to lick your face. You can teach them by placing a treat near your cheek and adding your preferred command word. Whenever they "kiss" you, reward them with treats and plenty of praise. Kids tend to enjoy this trick quite a bit.

2. Roll Over

Place a treat in your hand and wait for your dog to lie down. Get them to follow your hand without standing up by moving it around their head. Roll them over gently while saying, "roll." As soon as they roll over, reward them with a treat and lots of praise.

For about 10 minutes, repeat this process multiple times. The most effective way to ensure they learn quickly is to do this several times daily for approximately ten minutes. It would help if you always gave your dog praise when they roll over, and they will eventually learn that the "roll" command signifies that they should roll over.

3. Take A Bow

Since bowing is a natural stretching behavior for dogs, it is not usually as difficult as some imagine. This trick can be performed in multiple ways.

Observe when your dog stretches out a lot. Say "take a bow" and give them a treat. For a more direct approach, place your dog in a standing position. Give them a treat by placing it on the floor to get them to bend down. Keep their rear raised in place by placing your hand under their belly to stop them from lying down. Hold them there momentarily, repeating the phrase, "take a bow."

4. Play Dead

Play dead is one of the most popular tricks for dogs and puppies, and it teaches them to lie down and stay still, which can help prevent injury or escape attempts in stressful situations like road trips or when visiting the vet.

To teach your dog this fun trick, start by bringing them to the ground and have them lie down. As soon as your pup is completely lying down, you should reward them while repeating the phrase "play dead."

5. Shake Hands

When your dog is sitting in front of you, say, "shake hands," and gently shake their paw. When you repeat this action, reward them with small treats and praise. Try saying "shake hands" without taking their paw several times each day during training to see if they will raise their paw on their own. Continue taking their paws if they don't.

These tricks are guaranteed to impress your friends and family. There will be a big difference in how they interact with your canine companion, and your pup will enjoy the extra attention and treats whenever they perform a trick.
